The Installer is used to set up the users network of computers and to prepare the network to run projects. There are five basic steps in the process of setting up a network. The first step is to copy the Master Server software onto the machine that is chosen to be the Master Server and to get the Master Server configured and running. The second step is to copy the Worker Server software onto the machines that are to be the Worker Servers and to get the Worker Servers configured and running. The third step is to connect the Worker Servers to the Master Server over the network and to test the connections. The fourth step is to copy the Parallel Console software onto the machine that is to be the Parallel Console and  to get the Parallel Console configured and running. The fifth step is to connect the Parallel Console to the Master Server and to test the connection. When these steps are successfully completed the network is ready to run projects. There may also be issues with firewalls, permissions, etc. These types of issues are unique to a particular users environment and must be addressed by the users system administrator.

Network Installer

The Network Installer is used to upload updates of the parallel network software onto the individual worker computers on the network and to setup the computers so that they may function as workers in the parallel network.  Installing the parallel network software on a network of computers is accomplished by completing the following steps:
  • Copy the parallel network installer software from the network or a CD onto each computer which will be the part of the parallel network of computers.
  • Run the network installer program on the computer that will be the master server. 
  • Using the Worker Server Dialog below, add the worker server names to the list of worker servers
  • Start the master server .
  • Run the network installer to setup the worker servers on the other computers.
  • Test the connection to the master server to the master by pressing the Connect button in the Text Connection dialog.
  • Upload the software from the master server bu pressing the Upload button in the Test Connection dialog.
  • Start the worker servers. Each of them will start a worker as part of their startup process.  They will then connect to the master server and their worker.  As they connect they will exchange messages with the master server telling it they are online, have a worker available, and ready to work.  The master server will take note of the worker servers and their workers. Their status can be viewed from the Master Server Batch Run Status Dialog.
  • Copy the parallel network software onto any machine that will be a parallel console from the network or a CD.
  • Start a parallel console and press the connect button to connect it to the master server.  The master server will exchange messages with the console and indicate it it available to run projects.
  • The installation process is complete.  You can now load and run a project.
Worker Servers

The Worker Servers Dialog is used to add  and delete worker servers.  Changes in worker servers are stored in the database.  When the master server starts it tries to start each worker server in the list.  Worker servers can also be added by simply starting them when the parallel server is running. When a worker server starts it tries to contact the master server.  If it makes contact it establishes a link.  It it cannot make contact it remains dormant until contacted by the master server.

Test Connection

The Test Connection Dialog can be used to test the connection from the worker computer to the master server and to upload the parallel network software from the master server.

There are versions  of the  installer written in both Java and in C#.  The program shown on this page is written in Java.
